Slow Playing Dirt Bags
Slow Playing Dirt Bags
Author: Gerry Miller
I recently played an online tournament that had 90 players in it; usually a small tournament like this takes about 2-3 hours tops. This one took over 4.5 hours due to an excessive number of slow-playing players, I am not talking about slow-playing the way you bet but rather those people who always take an excessive amount of time to decide each and every move.
I realize many people play multiple tables when gambling online, even so this is no excuse for delaying a game. If you can’t master the art of playing multiple tables in a timely fashion then don’t play multiple tables!
Playing online poker is not a brick-and-mortar setting where you can get a read on people, it is a fast paced no-holds-barred mono-E-mono my best play against yours move on to the next hand virtual world. So please stop this ridiculous strategy (?) of stalling!
If you can’t tell these people aggravate me to no end! I just don’t understand why people do this; I guess they think they are sending a subtle message like.. ‘I am in deep analysis mode right now contemplating every scenario’. News Flash! All it accomplishes is that it makes you like an inconsiderate dirt bag.
Poker sites acknowledge this is an issue and have instituted some preventive measures such as the timer, but the problem is still there! I am all for the sites putting into their algorithms a way to identify these chronic abusers and adjusting their individual timers accordingly, let’s say reduce their timers by ½ for each offender, then increasing it over time as the player complies with the average of most players (my guess is about 5 seconds).
In the meantime if you are one of these chronic stallers, please stop! Or better yet get offline, most of us have lives to live and things to do, and to those three players who were at my initial table in the aforementioned tournament I would like those 45 minutes of my life back, the only solace I derived from playing at that table was knowing that I knocked two of you out of that tournament.
Whew! Been wanting to say that for a long time, if you are like me and get frustrated with these dirt bags and have exhausted your energy’s by yelling via the chat box.. I have no solutions for you other than to suggest that you complain to your sites customer representative and suggest they get a handle on those inconsiderate players.
